Description
The Veritas Inset Vise is a compact version of a wagon vise. It adds an adjustable dog to a workbench – allowing you to clamp your workpiece against one of your bench dogs. The clamping jaw of the inset vise has a 4″ range of travel, but the clamping capacity is limited only by the length of your bench and the placement of the dog holes. The vise slide has two mounting positions – 3-7/8″ apart – for the vise jaw. This spacing gives full clamping coverage for dog holes up to 7-3/4″ apart. When not is use, the vise jaw can be removed for a completely flat bench surface.
Jaws
The standard Inset Vise jaw is 1/2″ tall x 1-3/16″ wide. It has a slot in its face that accepts a 1/4-20 nut so you can mount a shop made accessory jaw. ThePivoting Jaw(sold separately) is used for clamping odd-shaped items. It is 1/2″ tall and 1-1/2″ wide.TheLow Profile Jaw(sold separately) is used for clamping thin items without obstruction. It can hold workpieces as thin as 1/4″ and is especially useful when handplaning.
Installation
The Inset Vise can be installed in any workbench that is at least 1-1/4″ thick. you’ll need enough room to make a mortise 10-3/4″ long by 3″ wide by 29/32″ deep. (This is the space required. The mortise is actually stepped. See theVeritas Inset Vise Installation Manual
